Bespoke flooring for Online Groceries in Singapore

Bespoke FlooringGrocery Logistics of Singapore (GLS) commissioned CoGri Asia Pacific to install a bespoke flooring upgrade in Singapore.

GLS provides logistics and distribution services to FairPrice Supermarkets, one of the leading supermarket chains in Singapore with over 130 stores. After making the decision to install a new automated Swisslog system to support online order fulfilment, GLS approached CoGri to ensure that the warehouse floor was up to the task.

Tim Walker, Regional Manager for CoGri in ASEAN said “As e-commerce continues to boom in the region we are seeing a strong trend towards logistics operators rolling out automated systems. This places more demands on the warehouse floor and creates some interesting challenges for us”.

Bespoke Flooring TeamThe project posed a unique challenge for CoGri. The Swisslog system requires very specific floor levelness requirements that weren’t being provided by the original floor. Said Tim “the challenge was picking the right solution that would work within the still operational warehouse and would have a fast turnaround. Like many projects in Singapore this is a multi-storey facility with difficult access and that also places a restriction on adding dead load to the structure. These factors made a CoGri Industrial Floor Screed System solution the perfect answer”.

The CoGri Industrial Floor Screed System is a pumpable wearing screed that can be quickly installed over the top of existing floors to provide a flat, level and durable surface. For the GLS floor upgrade the system had the added benefits of minimizing added weight to the structure – in this case it ranged from about 10 to 30 mm thickness. Said Tim “The system is installed using screw packing to get to the level of precision that the automated system needs, but the process is still very fast, the thousand square metre area was completely upgraded and ready to be trafficked within a week.”
