Face Consultants were commissioned by the specialist flooring contractor Stanford Industrial Concrete Flooring Ltd to design and detail the ground floor, pile supported slab, in line with the end users requirements and project specification.
The design was relatively complex, with the Face Design team having to work very closely with the Main Contractor and Consulting Engineers to provide solutions to various scheme changes and revisions that took place during construction. The numerous last minute and time-critical development changes presented the type of challenge that the Face team excels at, with the project completed with minimal fuss and compromise.
Following this, Face Surveying department were given instruction to survey the main ground floor area for compliance with FM2 and the office area for compliance with the FM4 classification of the Concrete Society’s Technical Report No 34 (Fourth Edition).
Followed by accelerated abrasion resistance testing to British Standards. Automatic guided vehicles (AGV’s) were to be operating on the three raised floors at 46,500m2 each (totalling 139,500m2 of floor area).
The Client had very strict floor requirements for the raised floors, and Face Consultants Ltd were involved at a very early stage to help all concerned to understand the specifications and come up with ways of testing, ensuring that all parties concerned were in agreement with the methodology and presentation of results.
We carried out the following specialist testing on the three raised floors;
- Gloss testing of the finished surface.
- F Number surveys to the Ff (flatness) limits of the American ASTM E1155 standard.
- Floor curvature testing (QI) was also carried out on a set basis across joints, around columns and near walls.
- Slip/skid resistance testing.
- Surface electrical resistivity testing.
- Accelerated abrasion resistance testing in accordance with BS 13892- 4:2002
Full comprehensive reports were issued following all our testing.
Duane Scarfe, Face Consultants’ Operations and Quality Manager said “This was a good job to be involved in and allowed us to use a wide spectrum of our services on one project.”
