CoGri Group in Indian Joint Venture

March 9, 2015

BGSBCoGri Asia Pacific have taken the first steps towards setting up a joint venture company in India with a recent visit to meet with BGSB in New Delhi.

Managing Director of CoGri Group Kevin Dare, and Colin Thoms, Managing Director of CoGri Asia Ltd met with Parmeet Bhalla and Parminda Singh of BGSB which coincided with their 5 year anniversary celebration.

“The partnership will combine two of the regions most important industrial flooring companies” Kevin said. “BGSB will bring local expertise, resource and logistics to combine with CoGri’s global experience of designing, constructing and repairing warehouse floors.”

The industrial flooring  market in India has been driven by material suppliers in recent years. Steel fibres, dry shake topping manufactures and densifiers have given no real thought to how the floor will be used and it’s long term performance.

CoGri and Face Consultants will be introducing a different concept in delivering a floor that will be economic and performance based without the influence of branded products.

“Designing a floor to take an imposed load is important, but the key to a performance floor is to design it with the knowledge of how that floor will be used” Kevin said.  “You also need to consider what materials handling equipment will run on the floor and understanding the clients performance requirements.”

Understanding serviceability issues such as curling, shrinkage control, joint detailing, flatness, abrasion resistance and suitability is the black art in delivering a performance floor. CoGri have over 25 years of global experience in understanding this black art and demonstrated its position within the world of Industrial Concrete Floors.

There is a misconception that dry shake toppings give better abrasion resistance, the same can be said about densifiers. With a good quality concrete, well finished and suitably cured, densifiers give no real benefit to the floors abrasion resistance. The same can be said for standard quartz based dry shakes.

There has also been a drive for steel fibre reinforced floors to be designed thinner with fibre contents less than 20Kg per metre cubed so that steel fibre floors can compete with mesh reinforced slabs. A word of caution here: Steel fibres have their place but having a steel fibre company design a floor where the design is driven by commercial pressures can prove to be dangerous.

Read the UK Concrete Society’s Technical report 34 (4th edition) for impartial good engineering practice.

As part of the joint venture, CoGri will be introducing other opportunities into India including:

  • The Laser Grinder® system of upgrading existing floors to superflat tolerances.
  • The Face digital flatness testing equipment.
  • CoGri specialist repair systems, including Rapid Repair system, Joint Stabilisers and Fastfloor IT screeds.

CoGri Group are looking forward to the next stage of developments in forming the joint venture, and working with the BGSB family in the very near future.
