A global company is investing in Thailand where their flagship store will be part of the new Mega Bangna lifestyle complex located on the outskirts of Bangkok.
Based on a review of concrete car park surfaces being constructed the client’s project manager wanted another option for the construction of the store floors. Looking for advice the client contacted CoGri Group’s partner Ignacio at Eurostick in Spain. Ignacio introduced the client to CoGri Asia. Several meetings later convinced of CoGri’s ability, the client recommended to their main contractor that CoGri should be appointed for the store and warehouse flooring works. CoGri Asia mobilised to site in early January 2011.
The flooring contract includes 28,000m2 of 75 and 100mm bonded topping with an extra 8000m2 likely to be added to the contract. Slabs are reinforced with a layer of mesh, two layers of reinforcing steel and 25 kg / m3 of .75 x 50 fibre. Concrete had to be delivered by pipeline up to 150 meters long.
Casting started on 26th January with a 550m2 bay. A small gap in the fine aggregate grading proved to be a bigger obstacle than anticipated. 7m3 into the pour, 100m long pipeline blew out throwing concrete 15m into the air. The site team quickly broke, cleaned and reassembled the pipeline. The QA team working with the concrete supplier quickly adjusted the mix design and casting resumed in less than an hour.
Unfortunately, the first day hiccups were not over. The gap grading in the fines and a weak pump resulted in 13 hours of placing and a 26 plus hour shift. The client and main contractor toured the site at 0830 on the 27th and were surprised to see a tired CoGri team on site but gave positive feedback on the completed work. Saturday casting resumed with further revisions to the mix design.
